SuperDARN Canada's Research Associate, Dr. Pavlo Ponomarenko, spent December 2016 through March 2017 working as a Designated Associate Professor at the Institute for Space-Earth Environmental Research, Nagoya University, Japan. While pursuing a number of research topics, he put the main emphasis on in depth analysis of signatures of the Tohoku earthquake in SuperDARN data. It was a valuable time collaborating with our SuperDARN colleagues in Japan. Further details can be seen in the ISEE Newsletter from Jun 2017 here (see page 5).
A large contingent from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan attended the 2017 SuperDARN workshop in the Tuscany reigon of Italy during the first week of June 2017.
A poster was presented by Dr. J.P. St.Maurice titled "Comparing SuperDARN and Swarm ion velocity measurements". Marci Detwiller, Keith Kotyk and Kevin Krieger also presented a poster on the Borealis project (a new fully digital implementation of a SuperDARN radar). There were presentations made by Dr. Pasha Ponomarenko, Dr. Glenn Hussey, Dr. Sasha Koustov and Kevin Krieger as well.
It was a great week full of great weather and better food!
